Jean Twombly - Stained Glass

Soleil Studio was founded in the mid 1980s with the first production of our signature stained glass lanterns. Not long after, Jean Twombly began designing and hand crafting leaded stained glass panels for custom orders from galleries including the Hanover Branch of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen, the Worcester Center for Crafts in Massachusetts, and two panels for the 2022 International Year of Glass Show at Viewpoints Gallery in Makawao, Hawaii.

Working in iridescent and figured glass of various patterns from fine makers such as Youghiogheny, Bullseye, Armstrong, Wissmacht, Fremont, Uroboros, Kokomo and Oceaside Art glass, Jean uses line and texture as well as color to sculpt her work. Below is a work-in-progress view and the finished 20" panel, a 2021 commission "Bluebird in Flight".

We believe that every home benefits from art objects which marry form and function. Soleil Studio's stained glass oil candle lanterns include three stained glass panels, a glass sliding panel, and a delicate triangular oil candle, enclosed by a handmade maple or cherry hardwood frame. Each lantern is unique and entirely made by hand in our studio.

Below are two different renditions of a nautilus shell design. The first, a commission piece in the finishing stages, and the second, a newly-cut piece awaiting smoothing, copper foil, soldering, finishing and polishing to prepare the piece for hanging.

A new 12" round work in progress, "Wave 1".

Playful schools of tropical fish are crafted from small off-cuts of glass and provide raw materials for a mobile or a panel.
